Just hours after the US and Israel launched their attack on Iran, and following reports of enhanced security measures at the American air base at Akrotiri in Chania and the NATO naval base at Marathi in Souda Bay, several “unusual” vessels appeared in the area.
According to flashnews.gr, these vessels were initially thought to be speedboats belonging to security personnel from the Marathi base. However, it was later revealed that they are four maritime drones called Seasats, developed by the US, which are conducting 24-hour patrols in Souda Bay, primarily at the bay’s entrance near the naval base at Marathi, in response to developments in the Middle East.

What are the Seasats patrolling Souda Bay and what are their capabilities
Seasats or Seasats Autonomous Surface Vehicles – ASVs are autonomous robotic vessels that are made in USA. They are cutting-edge, unmanned maritime robots designed to execute long-duration missions.
They operate without crew, using artificial intelligence and sensors to navigate independently, detect obstacles, and execute predetermined missions. They come in various types, with some powered by solar energy, allowing them to remain at sea for weeks or months. They are used for surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and patrol operations by the US Navy, as well as for scientific purposes.
