A fatal traffic accident occurred earlier today (09/03) on the Northern Road Axis of Crete (VOAK) near Rethymno, when a 55-year-old man -under circumstances still unknown- lost control of his vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic.

According to flashnews.gr, the vehicle’s path was stopped by metal guardrails at the road’s edge, which it collided with.

The VOAK traffic police were notified of the incident at 6:20 AM, and a team rushed to the scene along with an ambulance from the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAV), which transported the unconscious man to the hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident, while examining the possibility of sudden death of the unfortunate 55-year-old driver.
