Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will hold his first meeting today in Thessaloniki with a self-organized group that supports him, while tomorrow he will be in Kozani for the presentation of his book “Ithaka.”
At the gathering taking place in a municipal hall at seven in the evening, Alexis Tsipras will be there to listen to the concerns, positions, and proposals of the speakers. His intention is to gauge the climate and pulse of progressive citizens and naturally to hear their suggestions for the process of restructuring the progressive political camp.
Depending on how the discussion unfolds, he may take the floor for a brief intervention. But his main objective is to listen rather than speak. Exactly as he committed to do in the statement that accompanied his resignation as MP, when among other things he declared: “I am abandoning the safety of the parliamentary benches. And I aspire to return to the hopeful uncertainty of social action. Not to lead from above, but to better listen to society and its needs.”
The former Prime Minister’s move to meet with the self-organized group is particularly significant, as these groups have mobilized throughout Greece and aim to follow Alexis Tsipras in his next steps.
Until now, nothing seemed to connect these groups with the former SYRIZA president. Therefore, Alexis Tsipras’s move to meet and dialogue with them holds special significance.
Meanwhile, let us recall that in Kozani the political impact of the book will be discussed by: Sokratis Vatalis (Civil Engineer), Evgenia Gaki (Educator), Theodoros Karypidis (Former Regional Governor – Journalist), Themis Moumoulidis (Director-Writer) and Stefanos Baltagiannis (NHS Director). This will be followed by a speech from Alexis Tsipras.
The presentation and coordination of the event will be handled by Georgia Lotsopoulou.
