The thirteen book tour stops announced by Alexis Tsipras for the presentation of his book “Ithaca” have led many to believe that the “announcement” for the creation of his new party is being postponed, as the former prime minister cannot simultaneously discuss his book and past mistakes while outlining his party’s program. Meanwhile, at Amalias street, the former prime minister’s associates appear optimistic, believing that Alexis Tsipras’ appeal to society is growing day by day.
Why Tsipras’ team believes the former prime minister’s social appeal is growing
They base this belief on four factors:
– First, the gatherings are becoming larger day by day. It’s notable that in Ioannina and Larissa, attendance was particularly high, with significant active participation.
– The second reason concerns who attends the gatherings. According to the former prime minister’s associates, it’s not just SYRIZA officials, New Left members, or people who have distanced themselves from the Koumoundourou party. They are disillusioned figures from all areas of the center-left and the broader democratic space.
– The third reason relates to Alexis Tsipras’ contact with all citizens. Given that the former prime minister arrives at least one day before presentations, he comes into contact with local residents, workers, young people, farmers, and discusses their problems. After all, when he resigned from his parliamentary position, he said he left the security of parliamentary theory to connect with the people.
– The fourth reason concerns the fact that the presentations involve officials who have distanced themselves from other political entities and wish to join Alexis Tsipras’ party.
If one includes the fact that Alexis Tsipras has begun shaping his agenda and rhetoric, which is much more leftist than in his initial appearance at “Pallas,” everything indicates we will soon be talking about the new political entity.
Opening to New Left officials and Alexis Charitsis – Thanasis Karteros’ article that didn’t go unnoticed
Meanwhile, an article by Alexis Tsipras’ close associate Thanasis Karteros in Efimerida ton Syntakton didn’t go unnoticed by anyone, where he made an opening to some New Left officials and Alexis Charitsis. “It’s difficult to find reasons, however negatively one stands toward the New Left, to criticize the stance of certain of its officials. Alexis Charitsis, for example, who watches his words, shows unifying self-restraint in the face of the space’s fragmentation, and doesn’t engage in aggressive nonsense about supposedly condemning ‘leadership parties.’ As well as Nasos Iliopoulos and others who utilize their parliamentary status to highlight a series of issues touching the core of Mitsotakis regime practices,” Thanasis Karteros noted among other things.
Simultaneously, however, he attacks the former “53,” while characterizing “this stance as even more inexplicable regarding persons very close to Tsipras during the difficult times of governance.” This position obviously has its value, since the question of who and in what way will participate in the new party is always on the table.
