With a borrowed name and borrowed slogans, Stefanos Kasselakis attempted to reappear before the Greek public, hoping that this time he would fare better. The new name of Kasselakis’s party is “Democrats” and, regardless of whether he appeared to be seeking the delegates’ vote, this name had been registered and the domain name purchased four days earlier.
Behind the scenes of Kasselakis’s controversy-sparking congress
Furthermore, Stefanos Kasselakis, after the uproar that was created, admitted to the Congress body that he requested the name from Andreas Loverdos, who owned the title “Democrats“. And as if these revelations weren’t enough, ONNED accused him of stealing the slogan they had at their 2019 congress, which was none other than “Tomorrow now,” while Stefanos Kasselakis at the congress had the slogan “Tomorrow is now.” Obviously, Stefanos Kasselakis believed that by changing the name and slogan he could comprehensively change his party’s image, which lately had been anything but good.
It is characteristic that the pharmacist of the Polytechnic, Melpo Lekatsa, who was a SYRIZA official and followed Stefanos Kasselakis in the split, reacting to the threats unleashed by trolls supporting the party president against those who disagreed, stated during the congress: “I wasn’t afraid of the Junta, I won’t be intimidated by their threats.”
Additionally, in his post on the matter, Nikos Moraitis mentioned: “Behind the flashes, the smile and the supposed empathy, a person set up the most bloodthirsty troll army. Why? To serve his need to look at himself in the mirror. Since there are no more voters, since he reached the humiliating 1.5%, the trolls write ‘you are a leader!’ at every gaffe, they glorify every mistake, and he admires himself. He feeds his trolls with hatred toward his opponents and they return flattery and admiration. In her speech at the Congress, the historic pharmacist of the Polytechnic, Melpo Lekatsa, commented on a post by an arch-troll who last week was intimidating congress delegates (democracy, eh? No jokes!), threatening: ‘We know you one by one and we’re waiting for you.’ Lekatsa had the courage to say: ‘Who are you that know us and are waiting for us? I wasn’t afraid of the Junta, should I be afraid of you?’ Kasselakis was forced to applaud hypocritically, supposedly condemning trolls who are his collaborators and commissioned agents. And the hall? What did the hall do? Instead of applauding the light and collectively liberating themselves, condemning the darkness of the trolls, they took their side! They booed the heroine of the Polytechnic and preferred the ‘character assassins.’ Of course, there were exceptions. People who protected Melpo Lekatsa when she came down from the podium and received harassment. Some didn’t even think to maintain appearances! Because Lekatsa is the last symbol of leftist History in a party without principles, without backbone, without identity and (now) without a name. A party that surrendered to trolls, because its President breathes by having guards, subjects and worshippers. In essence, he himself is also a victim of a narcissism that, with sudden fame-power and their equally sudden loss, acquired uncontrollable dimensions. Kasselakis is a victim of a monster that devoured a human being.”
