Rodopi: Timeline of disappearance and discovery
It should be noted that the elderly man had gone out for agricultural work with his tractor on Wednesday, when severe weather broke out, with storms and gale-force winds. He reportedly attempted to cross the rural Irish ford at the junction of Mirana and Venna villages with his tractor, when he was apparently swept away by the rushing waters of the swollen Lissos River.
The elderly man’s children notified the police in the evening hours of Wednesday about their father’s disappearance. From the early hours of Thursday, strong forces from the Fire Department and EMAK, with the help of Red Cross volunteers, residents, Local Government and Civil Protection, with EMAK divers and Fire Department drones, began the massive effort to locate the missing person. Yesterday, Wednesday, the elderly man’s tractor was found, while today, Thursday, his body was discovered.
