Emphasizing that three years after the Tempe tragedy, the priority remains justice for the victims through the courts, Alma Lata, mother of 20-year-old Claudia, expressed her strong disagreement with the possibility of forming a political party by Maria Karystianou. “It’s heartbreaking that nearly three years have passed and no one is in prison,” she said characteristically, noting that even people who bear responsibility remain free. As she emphasized, public interest has shifted, while she believes the focus should be on justice for the children who were lost.
Speaking to Mega TV, she underlined that as a mother she feels the same as Karystianou, however she assessed that the present moment is not suitable for political initiatives. “We must fight hard in the courts. The investigation, as Maria also says, was not conducted properly and this is what we must fight for legally,” she noted.

At the same time, she expressed fear that a political movement could be exploited by third parties. “With this choice, only those who want to benefit behind her pain and those who want to destroy us will profit,” she said, adding that Maria will face pressure and attacks and that she must fight hard together with the other parents in the courts.
Finally, she made it clear that she would not support a party based exclusively on the pain of relatives. “People vote for their daily lives, for education, agriculture, their problems. To enter politics you must have an opinion on everything, not just on Tempe,” she said, concluding that “at this moment, all time and energy must be given to the judicial battle to vindicate our children and not to deal with who she will have beside her and where she will place them in the party.”
It should be recalled that Claudia Lata was born in Larissa and had obtained Greek citizenship.
An excellent student, she was studying Medicine at the University of Thessaly. She was on the fatal Tempe train returning to her university from Patras, where she had gone for the Clean Monday long weekend.
