The measures expected to be implemented this year were outlined by Kostis Hatzidakis through a TikTok video, emphasizing that the government will continue reforms in 2026, honoring its pre-election commitments.
Kostis Hatzidakis: Digital work card extends to public sector in 2026
Specifically, the deputy prime minister begins with public sector operations, discussing the continued effort to reduce citizen bureaucratic burden. As he notes, following digital modernization and significant acceleration in pension processing, the government is proceeding with new legislative initiatives aimed at ending “daily madness stories” and further simplifying citizen and business interactions with the public sector.
He also mentions the utilization of digital tools and artificial intelligence applications in the justice system, aiming to further accelerate justice delivery. “We owe it to the citizens,” he emphasizes. Additionally, he announces that within 2026, the Digital Work Card application will be extended to the public sector, while reaffirming the commitment to increase the minimum wage. As he states, there will be another increase in April, within the framework of the goal for a 950-euro minimum wage by 2027.
Upgrades and major infrastructure projects
Subsequently, Mr. Hatzidakis refers to the health sector, noting that by summer the upgrade of 156 health centers and approximately 80 hospitals will be completed, within the broader plan to strengthen the public health system.
Reference is also made to major infrastructure projects that, as he points out, are entering the completion phase. These include the E65 highway, the Thessaloniki Metro extension to Kalamaria, as well as railway projects on the Athens-Thessaloniki axis.
Furthermore, Mr. Hatzidakis mentions that within 2026, the new system for European agricultural subsidies to farmers will be implemented in its final, digital form. This is, as he notes, a reform with a “social character” that aims for transparency and fairer distribution of support.
Closing his post, the deputy prime minister emphasizes that “the effort never ends” and requires seriousness, modesty, and effectiveness. “This is our commitment to you,” he notes, adding that those seeking “big words” will not find them in New Democracy. As he concludes, the government does not pretend to be infallible but works so that “Greece rises higher.”
