“Greece’s embrace of international law is a timeless core component of our foreign policy,” stated Defense Minister Nikos Dendias during his intervention in the parliamentary plenary session. He emphasized to all opposition parties that “we should not be playing games with these issues at all.” Commenting on the opposition parties’ criticism of the bill, he pointed out that “the Prime Minister makes explicit reference to the United Nations Security Council.” He further added that Greece’s statement to the UN Security Council notes that “Greece reiterates that the United Nations Charter and international law, including human rights law, must always be respected.”
