Eleni Papadopoulou: Found charred on a sofa inside her Kolonaki apartment
The elderly woman was found charred on a sofa inside her Kolonaki apartment. Notably, one of the firefighters during extinguishing detected the smell of gasoline in the building’s stairwell from the 1st to the 3rd floor, right outside the victim’s apartment. Subsequently, according to the Criminal Investigation Department, gasoline traces were found, while no flammable material was discovered inside the apartment. In contrast, a gasoline canister was found at her son’s house.
He did not attend his mother’s funeral in Alexandroupoli
According to information, toxicological analyses showed the presence of sedative substances, although no corresponding medication had been administered or prescribed, while carbon monoxide was absent from her blood. This element strengthens the conclusion that the woman had already lost her life before the fire broke out. Additionally, it became known that he did not attend his mother’s funeral in Alexandroupoli, citing Covid illness, and has never visited the cemetery where the 87-year-old is buried since then.
The evidence began to focus on the son, who told relatives and friends that the Fire Department had concluded in its report that his mother was charred by a lit cigarette, while in conversations with Angeliki Nikolouli he even spoke of spontaneous combustion.
Neighbors said the only conflicts the 87-year-old had were with her son. As became known, he had massive debts and had already sold some of the family’s properties, while his goal was to sell the house in Kolonaki, but his mother disagreed.
