The tragedy involving the death of a five-month-old baby who died in the bed of her 19-year-old parents in Athens has taken new developments, as the mother has already vehemently denied the possibility that they crushed the little girl. However, the infant’s grandmother is not certain about this. She shared her suspicions while speaking on the “Live News” show on MEGA. She even made a macabre promise, targeting her son-in-law. The autopsy that will reveal the cause of death of the twin remains pending. She emphasized: “We’re making assumptions. But if it happens to be what I suspect, I will put him in the ground. They had two cribs in the room.”
Her suspicion stems from the fact that the twins’ father “sleeps very heavily“. She emphasized that she had spoken to both her daughter and her partner about the dangers of sleeping in the same bed with their children. The 19-year-old said the babies cried a lot, but insisted that both parents took all necessary precautions. However, her mother stressed: “The environment was such that there was no room for the babies. They had them in a bedroom where both the parents and babies were staying. You might say they’re just babies. It doesn’t matter. Children need their own space,” she initially states and continues: “Nor should they sleep with parents in the bed. It’s unacceptable. Both are to blame, but more so the other one (referring to the father).” Meanwhile, forensic pathologist Dimitris Galenteris said that if an adult crushes a baby, three minutes is more than enough to cause death.
Dead infant’s grandmother: Predicted their breakup
The grandmother of the five-month-old baby who lost his life, with circumstances still not disclosed, predicted that the couple would end up divorcing: “Adoration at some point becomes bitterness. Why? These children will break up. I’m not happy about it. They will break up because one blames the other.” Additionally, she said she is also waiting for the autopsy: “The autopsy will show. We cannot know anything. Just what we’re learning now and what we know. My brother-in-law cannot know because he was in the living room.”
According to a close family friend of the couple, the baby was not facing any serious health problems. “The child had recently had a urinary tract infection and had been hospitalized at the Children’s Hospital, which means the child was thoroughly examined there until they found the urinary infection, meaning there was no pathological cause,” she told MEGA. EKAB transferred the infant on Friday morning, December 19, to “Agia Olga” hospital. According to the mother’s testimony, she along with her partner and their twin children slept in the same bed and in the morning they discovered that the little girl would not wake up. As reported by POEDHN president Michalis Giannakos, the mother told doctors that the child was alive at 4:00 in the morning. An autopsy was expected to be performed on the infant while police were also called to the hospital.
