The Christmas week starts with “warm” money for more than 1 million households, as the advance payment of the heating allowance is credited to bank accounts by tomorrow. According to data from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue, a total of 1,230,748 applications were submitted through the myHeating platform, of which 867,524 concern subsidies for oil and other fuels and 363,224 for electricity. For previous beneficiaries, the advance payment corresponds to 60% of the allowance they received last year, while for new beneficiaries the amount is 50% and cannot be less than 80 euros. The total heating allowance ranges from 100 to 800 euros and can reach up to 1,200 euros for areas with very low temperatures.
Heating allowance: When payments are made
The payment dates for the allowance are as follows:
-Until December 23, 2025: advance payment and payment for purchases with invoices until November 30, 2025, with data entry until December 5.
-Until May 29, 2026: payment for fuel purchases (or pellets and wood) until April 15, 2026, provided they have been declared by April 30, 2026.
For natural gas and district heating, an additional payment will be made until July 31, 2026.
Heating allowance: Beneficiary amounts – Examples
Indicatively, beneficiaries will receive:
– A previous beneficiary who received 300 euros as heating allowance last period will receive 60% of that amount in advance, namely 180 euros. The remaining amount will be paid in subsequent installments based on weather conditions and total fuel consumption until May.
– A new beneficiary living in an area with mild climate who is entitled to 200 euros as allowance this year will receive 50% of the total amount due, namely 100 euros as advance payment.
– A family with one child in central Athens will receive a heating allowance of 155 euros if using oil and 196 euros if using electricity. With two children, the allowance amounts to 181 for oil and 229 for electricity.
– A family with one child in Thessaloniki will receive an allowance of 256 euros for oil use and 324 if using electricity. With two children, the allowance amounts to 298 and 378 respectively.
– A family with one child living in Kozani will receive a heating allowance for oil use of 256 euros and electricity use of 324 euros. If they have two children, they will receive 298 and 378 euros respectively.
– A family with one child in Xanthi will receive 295 euros for oil and 374 for electricity. Correspondingly, the amounts for a family with two children amount to 344 and 436 euros.
– A family with one child in Vermio will receive a heating allowance for oil use of 715 euros and electricity of 906 euros. With two children, the corresponding amounts are 865 and 1,057 euros.
