Shock has been caused by the incident of juvenile violence that occurred on Monday afternoon (15/12) at a school in Kypseli, when a 16-year-old student attacked a 14-year-old within the school premises, reacting to derogatory comments about herself.
A student who was an eyewitness described that “the bell had rung for us to go inside and then I was going down to drink water and I see the two girls had entered into a circle and the 16-year-old was shouting at the 14-year-old ‘why did you call me a junkie’ and was cursing her with vulgar comments. Then she pulls out the knife and stabs it into her stomach and then into her arm deeper.”
Kypseli: “She wasn’t bothered at all, she was just laughing” the 16-year-old
The 14-year-old was injured in the stomach and arm by a butterfly-type knife. Teachers intervened immediately and called the ambulance, while students who witnessed the incident were shocked and crying. According to the student, after the incident the 16-year-old “wasn’t bothered at all, she was just laughing.”
It should be noted that the 16-year-old was at the school for the first day, after transferring from her previous school due to problematic behavior, and there were reports that she had previous similar incidents with two other children.
The 14-year-old is hospitalized out of danger, with Michalis Giannakos, president of POEDIN, stating that “she was saved by luck.”
“She’s a good girl,” says the 16-year-old’s sister about the bloody incident
Specifically, speaking about the shocking incident, the perpetrator’s sister gave her own version, arguing that the attack was not unprovoked, but was the result of verbal abuse, with her sister as the victim. “They just provoke her and today she heard them cursing her at school” she mentioned characteristically, describing what preceded the attack. According to her description, her sister received offensive characterizations: “She called her ‘junkie’, ‘dirty’ and ‘what is she doing here’ and such things.” She wanted to defend her sister’s character, emphasizing: “She’s not crazy to go and attack her. She’s a good girl, I don’t see anything strange. Generally she doesn’t do anything without being provoked.”
Regarding the student’s past and the change of school environment, her sister confirmed that an incident had occurred at her old school, but downplayed its extent. “At her old school she fought with the teacher, shouted at her and threw coffee at her as a reaction. That’s it, nothing else happened” she noted, adding that at the new school they didn’t know her past since she had been going for a very short period of time.
