“Dignified” peace and guarantees that Russia will not attack Ukraine again were demanded on Sunday (14/12) by Volodymyr Zelensky as he prepared for a meeting in Berlin with American envoys and European allies of Kyiv. “The coming days will be full of diplomacy,” he stated in a post on X, while answering journalists’ questions via the WhatsApp messaging app, noting that security guarantees from Americans, Europeans and other allies instead of NATO membership for Kyiv was a compromise on Ukraine’s part.

Witkoff and Kushner in Berlin meetings on Ukraine
It should be noted that it is not clear who will participate in the meetings taking place in the German capital today and tomorrow, Monday (15/12). However, an American official stated that President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as his son-in-law Jared Kushner will be in Germany for talks with Ukrainians and Europeans.
The choice to send Witkoff, who led negotiations with Ukraine and Russia regarding the American peace plan, appears to be an indication that Washington sees a possibility of progress, almost four years after Russia’s invasion in 2022.

It is noted that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz hosts Zelensky and European leaders in a summit in the German capital on Monday, the latest in a series of public events of support for the Ukrainian leader from allies across Europe.
Britain, France and Germany are working to improve the US proposal, which was deemed particularly favorable to Russia. Meanwhile, Zelensky denounced that hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians remain without electricity today after Russian strikes against energy infrastructure, while he also posted photos of burning or destroyed buildings.
“Russia is prolonging the war and seeks to cause as much damage as possible to our people“, the Ukrainian president emphasized. “In total, the Russians launched more than 1,500 drones, almost 900 guided aerial bombs and 46 missiles of various types against Ukraine this week“, Zelensky added.
