AVAX: The final 10 km of Patras – Pyrgos by the numbers
The final 10 kilometers represented the most demanding section of the first segment – totaling 21 km – of the highway implemented by AVAX. The project’s complexity focused on sophisticated technical specifications, the fact that work was carried out on the old alignment with continuous traffic flow, as well as extreme weather conditions over the last 120 days, culminating in August’s wildfires and heavy rainfall from September onwards. Despite these challenges, the project was delivered without the slightest delay.

For the completion of this specific section by AVAX, 500 workers of all specialties were employed and:
- 52 traffic management changes were required
- earthworks of approximately 1 million cubic meters were executed
- 70,000 cubic meters of concrete were used
- 7,500 tons of steel reinforcement were installed
- 28 kilometers of piles were constructed
- 25 kilometers of lighting and telematics cables were installed
- 150 vehicles for aggregate material transport were used
The delivery of the Mintilogi-Alissos section marks the connection of the unified Athens – Elefsina – Corinth – Patras – Pyrgos axis of the Olympia Odos. The Patras – Pyrgos highway significantly enhances road safety and connectivity in Western Greece, creating a modern motorway that serves residents, businesses and visitors of the prefectures of Corinthia, Achaia and Ilia, as well as the islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia.
