Taxi strike on December 2 & 3: “The sector has reached its limits”
According to the Federation, all margins for dialogue with the competent ministries, particularly with the Ministry of Transport, have been exhausted, without any solution being provided to date for any of the serious problems affecting the daily life and survival of professional drivers.
Specifically, in a statement by POEIATA it is mentioned: “All margins for dialogue with the competent Ministries, especially with the Ministry of Transport, have been exhausted without there being solutions to any of the problems concerning the daily life and survival of our colleagues.
Our permanent and basic demands concerning sustainability and daily life issues for our members have remained unresolved for quite some time, while several bills have passed and we only received extensions of time and patience as answers.
The Federation’s Board of Directors convened and unanimously decided: A 48-hour warning nationwide strike is declared for Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3 with mobilizations throughout the territory. Procedures begin for convening a Sectoral Council for decisions and continuation of ongoing mobilizations.
The Board of Directors’ demands are as follows:
– Extension of the electric mobility obligation until 2035.
– Addressing unfair competition caused by multinational ride-sharing apps.
– Immediate decisions to combat work theft in the sector by private cars.
– Increase in time charges and minimum rental rates nationwide.
– Renegotiation for loaded taxis’ entry into special lanes.
– Implementation of all pending issues from the fundraising bill.
– Tariff readjustment.
– Fair tax treatment.
– Meanwhile we await a meeting with the Ministry where the
– Presidency will participate along with faction leaders.
– If there are no answers, the sector will unanimously and dynamically make its decisions”.
