The presentation of Alexis Tsipras’ book will constitute another political event, as this occasion is expected to provide answers to the criticism he received for what he writes in his book “Ithaca,” while simultaneously making more concrete the political stance of the new political entity he will create.
Alexis Tsipras: How the book presentation will unfold
According to sources, the presentation event will have two parts. In the first part, former Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis will speak about the fiscal indicators of the SYRIZA government, while Evgenia Fotioniata, Special Secretary of ESPA at the Ministry of Finance and Development from 2015-2019, will refer to the developmental moves made by the Tsipras government, despite being under strict supervision by creditors. The panel will also include two academics and possibly one or two journalists. After the initial presentation segment, where these individuals will also discuss the book, Alexis Tsipras will take the floor to provide explanations in his own way for the points in the book that have drawn criticism.
Which officials from SYRIZA and New Left will be present in the audience obviously matters, as does whether Sokratis Famellos and Alexis Charitsis will attend the presentation. The two men are expected to make their first joint appearance today as guests of Petros Kokkalis at an environmental event. This meeting is obviously of particular interest, since recently there has been a major effort by some within SYRIZA for the two parties to align, in order to run with a joint ballot in the elections.
This is because no one knows how Alexis Tsipras will ultimately move regarding his former party and New Left. Those in the know say that the former prime minister will choose to include individuals rather than parties in the new entity, as it is known that he does not wish to align again with personalities who created problems for him in the past.
Polakis’ moves
One of these officials is Pavlos Polakis, who appears particularly annoyed by what Alexis Tsipras writes in his book. SYRIZA officials believe that the Chania MP will not remain idle, but will attack Sokratis Famellos and all those who support that Koumoundourou’s party should align with the former prime minister. SYRIZA officials also argue that Pavlos Polakis might, if he sees Sokratis Famellos flirting with Tsipras’ new party, seek to claim SYRIZA’s leadership.
