The reaction of Pavlos Polakis is being awaited with particular interest in SYRIZA following what Alexis Tsipras wrote in his book.
Many believe that the MP from Chania will “take up arms” and oppose his comrades who wish to cooperate with the former prime minister, arguing that since he has “abandoned” his former comrades, they cannot negotiate with him. This means that until Alexis Tsipras shows his hand, SYRIZA will once again enter a state of turmoil, despite Sokratis Famellos’ efforts to advance his proposal for a joint electoral ticket.
Tsipras’ “Ithaca” causes embarrassment in SYRIZA and New Left
The truth is that the day after the release of Alexis Tsipras’ book has brought embarrassment to the officials of SYRIZA and the New Left, as the reality is that no one can understand how the former prime minister will move forward. Obviously, most are trying to read between the lines to see who he might collaborate with in the future. Some point out – without this meaning anything – that Alexis Tsipras does not mention the name of SYRIZA’s president anywhere – neither positively nor negatively – although he makes references to February’s congress and what happened there.
It should be recalled that at that time, Nikos Pappas and Sokratis Famellos had initially appeared to support Olga Gerovasili for the position of president, but in the final stretch they changed their mind, leaving her alone. For this reason, Alexis Tsipras had intervened with a letter requesting internal party elections.
The big question mark ahead of Tsipras’ book presentation
All eyes are focused on next week, when Alexis Tsipras will present his book. The big question is who will attend from SYRIZA and the New Left and whether the leaders of both parties will show up. Sokratis Famellos, in all his statements, makes it clear that he will not move confrontationally against Alexis Tsipras, but based on the Political Secretariat’s decision, although some have recently attempted to “soften” it.
Tsipras’ appreciation for Charitsis, Achtsoglou, Iliopoulos and Tzanakopoulos
But things are not clearer in the New Left either, since half of Patission’s officials have come out and criticized Alexis Tsipras’ book. However, as evident from his book, the former prime minister had appreciation, although at some point he was disappointed by them, for Alexis Charitsis, Efi Achtsoglou, Nasos Iliopoulos and Dimitris Tzanakopoulos. He always had a special relationship with these specific officials and governed with them until the end. In fact, regarding Nasos Iliopoulos, he mentions that he had called him to his office to express his disagreement with their departure from SYRIZA.
About Efi Achtsoglou, he notes that she refused to take the lead in the second electoral race in 2023, and he makes a similar reference to Alexis Charitsis, to whom he proposed after June to be a candidate for the presidency, which he declined. What this means will be shown by time…
