Rama Duvachi, the distant and discreet wife of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, has played a pivotal role in his political journey. While she avoids the spotlight, she was the one who designed the logos and communication identity of his campaign, contributing to his explosive rise on social media.
The 28-year-old, who grew up in Dallas and studied in Dubai, is an American with Syrian roots. She moved to New York four years ago and after her husband’s victory, became the youngest first lady of New York. Although she remained unseen during the campaign, she is believed to have had decisive influence on Mamdani’s strategy and public image.

Away from the spotlight but at the center of influence
Duvachi, who works as a ceramist and illustrator, avoided cameras and public appearances, while according to the New York Post, she designed the campaign imagery with its characteristic yellow, orange and blue colors. She has been recognized as the driving force behind her husband’s digital presence on social media.
Her only public post came after Mamdani’s victory, where she wrote on Instagram: “I couldn’t be more proud.”
Her posts focus on her artwork and supporting Palestine, without touching on political issues.

“She’s our modern Princess Diana”
Duvachi refuses interviews and prefers the quiet of her private life. Mamdani himself defended his wife from social media attacks, stating:
“Three months ago I married the love of my life, Rama. Right-wing trolls are trying to make the campaign, which should be about you, about her. Rama is not only my wife, she’s an amazing artist who deserves to be known on her own terms.”
Friends describe her as “the modern Princess Diana,” while according to the New York Times, she feels excited but also shocked by the publicity that followed her husband’s victory.
The couple, who met through the Hinge app in 2021, married in a civil ceremony in February and held a lavish wedding ceremony in Uganda in July, now living in Astoria, Queens.
