Another Russian reconnaissance aircraft flying over the Baltic Sea was intercepted by Poland, as announced by the country’s authorities on Friday (31/10). This marks the third such incident recorded this week. Specifically, according to an announcement from the Polish military’s Operational Command, the aircraft did not violate Poland’s airspace, but like in previous incidents, it had not filed a flight plan and its transponders were turned off. As the military stated: “This is already the third similar case this week, confirming the increasing activity of Russian aviation in the Baltic region.”
It should be noted that NATO’s eastern flank countries have been on high alert for potential airspace violations since September, when three Russian military aircraft violated Estonia’s airspace for 12 minutes, days after more than 20 Russian unmanned aircraft had entered Polish airspace.
