Japan’s new government is making every possible effort to strengthen its relations with US President Donald Trump, who arrives today, Monday (27/10), in Tokyo for a three-day official visit. At the start of his visit, Trump will be received by Emperor Naruhito, while approximately 18,000 police officers have been placed on standby for his security.
Donald Trump: The pick-up trucks and meeting with Takaichi
According to the NHK network, Japan’s Ministry of Transport is planning to welcome the American president with an impressive display of large American pickup trucks, in a move that appears to address Trump’s complaints about the limited number of American cars imported to Japan. NHK reported that the trucks will be lined up in the areas where tomorrow’s summit will take place with Japan’s new ultra-conservative Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who was elected by parliament on October 20.
According to NHK, Takaichi is now considering gifting Trump a golf club once used by the late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe – along with golf balls made from gold leaf. It should be noted that Takaichi is considered a protégé of Abe, who was assassinated in 2022. She shares the same nationalist and reformist views as him and is expected to benefit from the close friendship that Abe maintained with Trump.
Trump, who had visited Japan three times during his first term, often played golf with Abe, while the two men had also watched sumo wrestling matches together.
