JD Vance characterized the mission of disarming Hamas in the Gaza Strip and rebuilding the Palestinian enclave as “very difficult,” based on the ceasefire agreement proposed by the United States. Specifically, the US Vice President stated on Wednesday (22/10) from Jerusalem in a press conference alongside Benjamin Netanyahu after their meeting: “We have a very, very difficult mission ahead of us, which is to disarm Hamas and rebuild Gaza, to make life better for the people of Gaza, but also to ensure that Hamas is no longer a threat to our friends in Israel”.
Gaza ceasefire: Trump’s 20-point plan
It should be noted that since October 10, 2025, a peace agreement between Hamas and Israel has been in effect, after more than two years of war. The trigger for the bloody clashes in Gaza that followed was the attack by the Islamist organization and its allies on Israel on October 7, 2023. It is noted that key prerequisites for the ceasefire according to Donald Trump’s 20-point plan include, among others, the disarmament of Hamas, new redeployment of Israeli forces, as well as the influx of humanitarian aid to the devastated Palestinian enclave and its reconstruction. At the same time, regarding Gaza’s governance, any role for Hamas, which seized power in 2007, is excluded.

Netanyahu: The day after and the new vision
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated regarding his meeting with the US Vice President that he “discussed the idea of the day after.” “At this moment we are creating an amazing day after with a completely new vision,” for “how we will have a civil government, how to ensure security there,” he said. “This will not be easy,” he declared and “will require a lot of work,” but “I believe it is possible,” he added. The agreement is “an opportunity” for Israel to strengthen its relations with Middle Eastern countries, JD Vance also estimated.

He saw in this “an essential element” for expanding the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and certain Arab countries in 2020. This could allow, as he said, “an alliance structure in the Middle East that lasts, that endures and that allows good people in this region of the world to take matters into their own hands”. It should be noted that the US President aspires to restart the Abraham Accords, which were achieved during his first term between Israel on one side, and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco on the other.
