It should be noted that the murder of Stavros Dimosthenous, businessman and president of Karmiotissa FC, has shocked Cypriot society. The fatal attack in Limassol, specifically on Tsireiou Street, occurred shortly after 9 AM on Friday, and philenews reports indicate that Dimosthenous was shot on a nearby street from his home while in his car with his son. Specifically, his car was blocked by a van-type vehicle. Subsequently, a person on a motorcycle approached the businessman’s vehicle and opened fire against him.
Stavros Dimosthenous: His son attempted to transport him to hospital
His son immediately attempted to transport him to the hospital. According to the same sources, while en route to the hospital, a traffic accident occurred, resulting in Dimosthenous’s vehicle being immobilized. The victim appears to have died inside the vehicle.
Cyprus Police have been placed on high alert following the mafia-style execution of the well-known businessman and sports figure Stavros Dimosthenous that was committed in the morning in the Sfalangiotissa area. All services of the Limassol CID have been mobilized. It should be noted that the highway from the Agia Fylaxeos roundabout to the Troodos roundabout is closed. Information held by Cyprus Times overturns the data that police had until now regarding the execution method of the well-known businessman and football figure Stavros Dimosthenous. The fatal shots against the 49-year-old Dimosthenous were fired outside his home located in the Agios Athanasios area, while he was inside his car. The same sources report that the perpetrator got out of a van vehicle, shot him, got back in, and fled.
Subsequently, and because he was still alive, it appears his son put him in the car to transport him to a hospital. The scene around his residence is cordoned off over a large distance. It appears that at a point on the highway near Tsireiou, Dimosthenous died, which caused a traffic accident, which is why there are other crashed vehicles, as shown in the images below. Subsequently, it appears the perpetrators set the van vehicle on fire. The connection between the two cases has not yet been officially confirmed by police.

Who was Stavros Dimosthenous
The 49-year-old Dimosthenous was particularly well-known in Limassol and beyond. Previously, he owned nightclubs and later began his multi-year presence in Limassol football teams. Specifically, in 2015 he took over the reins of Aris Limassol. Five years later, he announced his departure from the team. However, his involvement with football didn’t stop there. A decade later, he assumed the presidency of Karmiotissa FC. Just one year later in 2021, he passed the presidency baton to Belarusian Dmitry Punin, however he returned again in November 2023.

In May 2025, he had declared that he resigned from the presidency, stating that he was considering running for the presidency of the Cyprus Football Association, something he ultimately did not pursue. While he may have been a businessman and football figure, the roles he enjoyed most were those of father and grandfather. Stavros Dimosthenous had two sons and one daughter, who gave him the only grandchild he got to know and to whom he had tremendous affection, according to his friends.

After the attack against him, according to the latest reports, the perpetrators reportedly fled by car, which other publications link to a vehicle fire on the roadside that occurred earlier today. The theory is that the perpetrators, after fleeing, set fire to their getaway vehicle to cover their tracks and continued by motorcycle. After the fatal attack, Alpha reports that Mr. Dimosthenous’s son put him in a car to transport him to a hospital, but shortly before the Polemidia overpass they appear to have been involved in a traffic accident, while the unfortunate businessman died in the meantime.
