Intense reactions are being sparked in Ukraine following Russia’s attack on a convoy carrying humanitarian aid, just a few kilometers from the front lines in Kherson. The incident highlights the vulnerability of humanitarian missions in war zones and raises serious questions about compliance with international law.
Attack in Kherson
Russia launched an attack using drones and artillery against white trucks that were carrying UN aid to Ukrainian civilians. The local governor, Oleksandr Prokudin, emphasized that it was a miracle no casualties occurred and accused Russia of terrorism.
A photograph posted by Prokudin shows a destroyed truck bearing UN WFP (World Food Programme) markings lying in a field in the Bilozerka community, near the Dnipro River.

International condemnation and Ukrainian response
Matthias Schmale, UN humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, stressed that “such attacks are absolutely unacceptable” and reminded that humanitarian mission members are protected under international law.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the action as a “new violation of international law,” highlighting Russia’s complete disregard for civilian lives and its international obligations.
