In an atmosphere of emotion and enthusiasm, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his speech to the Knesset in the presence of US President Donald Trump, who was warmly welcomed with applause from lawmakers.
Netanyahu to Knesset: “We remember our friends”
Taking the podium, Netanyahu warmly greeted Trump, emphasizing his historic role in strengthening US-Israel relations. “We remember our friends, we know your contribution and determination,” Netanyahu said, noting that the return of the hostages marked a moment of joy and hope for the entire nation. “How much we waited for this moment to come. I would like to thank you on behalf of all Israelis,” he added.
The Israeli Prime Minister did not fail to reference the historic decisions of Trump’s presidency, emphasizing: “Mr. President, the Knesset welcomes you to Jerusalem, our eternal capital. You were the first to recognize it and move the US embassy here. We thank you warmly for that.” He also thanked the American president for recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, as well as for his support at the United Nations against what he called “lies” about Israel.
Concluding his speech, Netanyahu emphasized: “Donald Trump is the greatest friend the state of Israel has ever had in the White House.” His words prompted prolonged applause and chants in favor of American-Israeli friendship, with the audience giving him a standing ovation in the Knesset chamber.
