Hamas has outlined its main terms regarding US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, as negotiations in Egypt continue to unfold. Specifically, Fawzi Barhoum, spokesman for the organization, stated earlier that the delegation seeks to “overcome all obstacles” to reach an agreement that meets “the expectations of our people in Gaza.”
Hamas: These are the organization’s six key demands
Barhoum enumerated Hamas’s basic demands as follows:
– Permanent and complete ceasefire
– Full withdrawal of Israeli forces from all of Gaza
– Unlimited entry of humanitarian and relief aid
– Return of displaced people to their homes
– Immediate start of a comprehensive reconstruction process, under the supervision of a national Palestinian technocrat body
– A fair prisoner exchange agreement
Barhoum accused Netanyahu of seeking to “obstruct and sabotage” the current round of negotiations, just as he had “deliberately sabotaged all previous rounds.”
“Despite the brutal military force, unlimited support and full American cooperation in the war of extermination in Gaza, they have not managed and will not manage to achieve a false image of victory,” Barhoum declared.
It’s worth noting that Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Majed al-Ansari, told reporters in Doha earlier that “if Hamas hands over the hostages, that will mean the end of the war” and emphasized that there were still many details that needed to be settled regarding Trump’s plan, making it too early to discuss the future of Hamas’s political office in Qatar.
