A earthquake occurred in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul, marking another seismic event recorded in Turkey. According to an emergency announcement from Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck offshore in the Sea of Marmara, with a focal depth of 6.71 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt primarily in Istanbul, as well as in neighboring provinces. The Kandilli Institute recorded the tremor at 5.3 magnitude.
No damage has been reported in Istanbul so far, but authorities warn residents to be very cautious and avoid buildings that may have sustained structural damage.
