US President Donald Trump is ready to relocate 2026 World Cup games—if necessary—that are initially scheduled in cities he considers unsafe. “The World Cup will be safe. If I find that it’s not safe (in certain cities), we will move the games to other cities,” Donald Trump said characteristically, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, while particularly criticizing crime statistics in Chicago, which is not among the cities set to host the 2026 World Cup.
“If we believe that a city will be even slightly unsafe for the World Cup or the Olympic Games (which will be hosted in Los Angeles in 2028), but especially for the World Cup, because the tournament spans so many cities, we will not allow the games to take place there, we will move them,” Trump further emphasized.
2026 World Cup: Which cities are scheduled to host games
Among the cities scheduled to host 2026 World Cup games are Democratic “strongholds” such as Los Angeles (eight games), San Francisco (six games), and Seattle (six games). The Trump administration deployed the National Guard this year to maintain order in certain Democrat-run cities, including Los Angeles, despite objections from local officials.
It should be noted that the United States will co-host the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19) with Mexico and Canada, while President Trump has appointed himself head of the White House task force for the 2026 World Cup.
