Major tensions erupted in the Parliament of Italy, when lawmakers came to blows following a vote on constitutional reform regarding the powers of judicial officials. Specifically, the Chamber of Deputies approved the reform with 243 votes in favor and 109 against during the third reading of the vote, according to Italian news agency Ansa. As soon as the voting ended, the majority of lawmakers applauded the result, and then chaos broke out. Specifically, the Democratic Party, represented by parliamentary group leader Chiara Braga, harshly criticized government members who had applauded.

At that point, various opposition representatives approached the government benches to protest. While Parliament Speaker Sergio Costa called for calm to be maintained, tensions between lawmakers escalated, resulting in complete chaos.
According to La Stampa, there were injuries, while the session was temporarily suspended and resumed after a few minutes. Although the reform was approved, it did not achieve the required two-thirds majority, which opens the path for a referendum to be held.
