Three people lost their lives and nine were injured when a cable snapped on a cable car at Mount Elbrus in Russia. The tragic accident occurred on September 12 in the North Caucasus, where 37 people were aboard the cable car. According to the Daily Mail, the chairs crashed into rocks with passengers still inside, while nine people were taken to hospital with injuries and three died at the scene. Meanwhile, 25 tourists remained trapped for hours until they were rescued.
It’s worth noting that the chairlift was operated by MKD Elbrus company and was the final stage of a Soviet-era line that transports tourists and climbers to a camping area at approximately 3,700 meters altitude.
The company’s CEO and chief technical officer were detained as part of a criminal investigation into the accident.
