Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of escalating the war after alarms were triggered in Poland and Romania over Russian drone incursions into their airspace. The Russian armed forces knew exactly where their drones were flying – this was not the arbitrary decision of some low-ranking commander, Zelensky stated in a post on his Telegram platform.

“This is an obvious escalation of the war by Russia,” emphasized the Ukrainian president. This move requires preventive action from the West. Russia must face the consequences, Zelensky added. He once again urged allies to impose sanctions and tariffs against Russia’s trading partners, echoing statements by US President Donald Trump. He also stressed the need to create a joint security system.
Zelensky: “Don’t wait for dozens of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles before finally making decisions”
“Don’t wait for dozens of Shahed drones and ballistic missiles before finally making decisions,” he said, addressing European allies. The Ukrainian president had also referred to the sanctions issue in a video message broadcast on Saturday evening. He said it was necessary to reduce Russian oil trade in order to minimize Russia’s ability to finance military operations.
In this context, he praised Trump’s proposal for coordinated action against Russia. “I ask all partners to stop looking for excuses” not to impose sanctions, Zelensky said, addressing Europe, the US, G7 and G20.
