Former Supreme Court Chief Justice of Nepal, Sushila Karki, is taking interim leadership of the country, as announced by an official from the presidential office, following the resignation of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli. The 73-year-old Karki, the only woman to have served as chief justice of Nepal’sSupreme Court, will be sworn in at 20:45 local time (18:45 Greek time), according to Arkana Hadka Adhikari, spokesperson for the presidential office.
The country is experiencing intense political turmoil, with at least 51 dead and over 1,300 injured from violent clashes that began on Monday. Karki assumes her duties amid this critical situation, attempting to ensure stability and a smooth transition of power.
