Shock and outrage follow the murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian Irina Zaroutska on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her boyfriend, Stanislav “Stas” Nikoulitsia, publicly expressing his grief and anger over the case. The 21-year-old Nikoulitsia posted on social media photos with his tragically killed girlfriend and clips criticizing Judge Teresa Stokes, who had released the perpetrator Decarlos Brown seven months before the attack without bail, with a promise that he would appear in court. The perpetrator was a repeat offender with more than 12 previous arrests.

Meanwhile, Nikoulitsia criticized the apathy of fellow passengers on the train, posting a video with the caption “this is why they didn’t release the full video to the public.” The young man added Instagram emojis with a broken heart and mushroom, Irina’s favorite symbol.

Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that the Department of Justice will seek the harshest penalty for the perpetrator, characterizing the attack as a “direct result of overly lenient policies.” “He will never see the light of day as a free man again”, she emphasized regarding Decarlos Brown.
