The top spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index changed hands within just a few hours, with Elon Musk returning to the summit, once again surpassing Larry Ellison. Musk’s wealth now stands at $384 billion, just one billion above Ellison’s $383 billion. The Oracle founder had briefly claimed the number one position as his company’s stock soared to historic highs, pushing the market capitalization to $970 billion. However, by the end of the trading session, his net worth settled at $383 billion, while Musk’s wealth increased thanks to a slight uptick in Tesla’s stock price.
According to Bloomberg, the two entrepreneurs are neck and neck, with fluctuations in their respective stocks determining who holds the crown of world’s richest person. Further down the list, Mark Zuckerberg (Meta) and Jeff Bezos (Amazon) appear with fortunes of $264 billion and $252 billion respectively. Since the beginning of 2024, Ellison’s wealth has surged by $191 billion, primarily due to Oracle’s stock nearly doubling in value. In contrast, Musk has lost $48 billion during the same period, as Tesla posted a 14% decline. In Thursday’s pre-market trading, shares of both companies were recording fresh gains, leaving open the possibility of another leadership change during the trading day.
