Shock was caused by the fire and explosion that occurred on a train carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Vilnius, Lithuania. The incident happened at 9:30 AM (Greek time) during loading operations, while local authorities ordered evacuation within a one-kilometer radius around the railway station. There was one injured person, while firefighters faced difficulties approaching due to the high temperatures that developed.

A total of 40 firefighters rushed to the scene, but the extremely high heat prevented their immediate intervention. The LPG originates from a Lithuanian refinery owned by Polish company Orlen, while another company is responsible for its transportation. The terminal station does not belong to Orlen. So far there are no indications of deliberate action, while competent authorities are conducting an investigation in cooperation with the transport company and the terminal owner.

Minutes after the incident, at 9:54, authorities stopped a Russian passenger train that was approximately 10 kilometers from the station and redirected it to an alternate route to avoid any danger.
