Marine Le Pen continues to dominate French headlines as her appeal trial for the National Front parliamentary assistants case has been scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 12, 2026.
This legal proceeding is considered decisive for her political trajectory, as it will occur just months before the 2027 presidential elections, unless Emmanuel Macron decides to call early elections following the critical confidence vote on the Bayrou government.
It should be recalled that in March 2025, the Paris Court found Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzling public funds, imposing a five-year ban from political rights with immediate effect. This ruling strips her of the right to run as a candidate in the 2027 elections.
Along with Le Pen, eight European Parliament members were also found guilty of embezzling public funds, while 12 assistants were convicted of accepting illegal benefits. All elected officials involved in the case were punished with the loss of their right to stand for election.
