The Greek community is shocked by the death of 57-year-old Greek surfer, Mercury Psyllakis, who lost his life in a shark attack while surfing at a Sydney beach. The 57-year-old was a businessman and experienced surfer.

Mercury Psyllakis was a surfing champion at Long Reef Boardriders and on Sunday 7/09 the club posted on Instagram that it had lost its “beloved son“.
“Mercury was loved by everyone. He was passionate, caring, loyal, a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to all,” the club noted, adding: “This is something that will have such a huge impact on our community and the wider community. We lost our precious friend and we will never forget you“.

Farewells flooded the internet, with one surfer saying that Psyllakis always welcomed him with open arms when he traveled to Sydney.
“Sincere condolences to his wife and family, you are forever on the waves riding your last wave,” they said.
Another man said the Northern Beaches had been characterized as keys for generations by tight groups of surfing brothers.
“Losing such a cornerstone, Mercury, in such a radical, sudden way, leaves anyone with a sense of legacy devastated,” he emphasized.
