The Israeli military announced early Saturday morning the creation of a humanitarian zone in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in Gaza, as it plans to expand its military operations in the Palestinian enclave. According to the announcement, the zone will include infrastructure such as mobile hospitals, water pipelines, desalination units, and food supplies.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated hours ago that Washington is in “very deep” negotiations with Hamas and that he called on the Palestinian militant organization to release all hostages held in Gaza.
“We are in very deep negotiations with Hamas,” Donald Trump told reporters, saying the situation would be “tough” and “bad” if Hamas continues to hold Israeli hostages. “I said you’ll let them all go, now let them all go. And much better things will happen for you, but if you don’t let them all go, it will be a tough situation, it will be bad,” Trump said characteristically, adding that Hamas “is asking for some things that are good,” without providing more details, according to Reuters.
Approximately 50 Israeli hostages continue to be held by Hamas in Gaza, with 20 of them believed to still be alive. Hamas has stated it will release certain hostages as part of a temporary ceasefire, while Trump has repeatedly stated he wants the release of all hostages.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the war in Gaza would only end if all hostages were released, Hamas was disarmed, Israel established security control in the enclave, and an alternative political administration was created. Hamas demands an end to the war and Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.
