A shocking scene unfolded when a brand-new luxury yacht, worth €800,000, capsized and sank just 15 minutes after its launch, forcing the owner to swim to shore. According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred on Tuesday, approximately 200 meters from the coastline in the Ereğli area of Zonguldak, in northern Turkey.
A shocking video from the moment of sinking shows the yacht tilting to one side and sinking into the sea, while passengers jump terrified into the water. A man, believed to be the owner, can be seen standing on the vessel as it sinks, before diving into the sea and beginning to swim hastily toward the shore.
The captain and two crew members also reportedly jumped into the sea, with no injuries reported.
The luxury yacht Dolce Vento and the investigation
The yacht, named Dolce Vento, was between 24 and 30 meters long and was completed at the Med Yilmaz shipyard in approximately five months, before being delivered to its owner from Istanbul. Coast Guard teams rushed to the scene, creating a safety zone, while rescue teams with technical equipment were sent for the salvage operation.
According to shipyard officials, a detailed investigation will be conducted, with the causes of the sinking to be determined after technical inspections. Experts note that stability problems, such as errors in metacentric height calculations, are significant factors that can lead to capsizing or sinking of vessels. The investigation is ongoing.
