Following the explosive situation that developed at Saint Catherine’s Monastery and his statement that his life was in danger, Archbishop Damianos thanked the Greek government for contacting him and briefed them on his health status as well as the situation at the Monastery. The Archbishop made the following statement: “The Greek Government contacted me today, August 27, 2025, and I briefed them on the situation that has developed at the Holy Monastery following the restoration of legality and normalcy, as well as regarding my health and that of the monks who guard, under the protection and love of Egypt, the Holy Monastery of Sinai. I thank the Greek government for their touching concern as well as the thousands of Greeks and believers from around the world who are reaching out to the tested Sinai brotherhood. Especially to you, our brothers from around the world, I want to say that your unanimous support is our unwavering foundation.”
“My life is in danger,” the Archbishop of Sinai had said in his previous statement, adding: “I ask the Greek and Egyptian governments to protect me.”
