King Charles III of Britain sent a message of support to Ukraine today (24/8) on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day, calling for “lasting just peace” in the war that broke out in February 2022 following Russia’s invasion of its neighboring country.

“I continue to hope that our countries will be able to continue working closely together to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,” Charles wrote, according to the message posted on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky thanked Charles, appreciating that his words “are a true inspiration for our people,” while also expressing his gratitude to Britain for its support to Kyiv. “His Majesty’s kind words are a true inspiration for our people during these difficult times of war,” the Ukrainian president emphasized.
“We appreciate the United Kingdom’s leadership in supporting Ukraine and our just cause: to defend freedom from tyranny and to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine and throughout Europe,” he added.
Training will continue
Meanwhile, the UK Ministry of Defence announced that the British military will continue training Ukrainian soldiers at least until the end of 2026. More than 50,000 Ukrainian soldiers have already received training on British soil, according to the government.
For his part, British Defence Secretary John Healey commented: “We will continue to strengthen our support alongside our allies so that Ukraine can defend itself today and deter (an attack) tomorrow.”
“In the face of continued Russian attacks, we must put the Ukrainian armed forces in as strong a position as possible,” he added.
