During an interview on the “Mark Levin Show,” American President Donald Trump made a geographical error. Specifically, he stated that the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea is located “in the middle of the ocean” and added that it is a “beautiful area” the size of Texas. Moreover, he attacked former US President Barack Obama, accusing him of handing over Crimea to Russia.
The American President said, among other things, that during his own term Russia did not proceed with any territorial conquests, unlike what happened under previous presidents. Specifically, Trump emphasized that under his leadership Moscow could not seize territories, while conversely “with Biden they took everything, with Obama they took Crimea, and with Bush a large part of Georgia.” As he characteristically said: “With me, what did they take? Nothing. Nothing was lost.”
The American President even claimed that without his approach, the Russia-Ukraine conflict could have escalated into World War III.
Trump: Obama said to give Crimea to Russia
Referring specifically to Crimea, Trump noted: “Crimea was the heart and soul of that country. It’s gorgeous. And Obama said: ‘Give it to Russia.’ When Barack ‘Hussein’ Obama gave it away, he told them ‘Just hand it over, there will be no battle.’ So they handed it over. That was really the beginning of a catastrophic, long period for the country.”
He claimed that if he had given away territories, “it would be front page in every newspaper for the next 20 years.” In contrast, as he said, when Obama did it “nobody talked about it.”
“Crimea is huge and beautiful”
Continuing, Trump emphasized the importance of that specific territory, without avoiding mistakes: “I didn’t give away Crimea. Crimea is huge. I would say it’s like the size of Texas, somewhere in the middle of the ocean. It’s gorgeous. And they gave it away because of Obama. And the press doesn’t talk about it. Just like they don’t talk about the part of Georgia.”
At this point, it’s worth noting that Crimea has nothing to do with any ocean, but is mostly surrounded by the Black Sea and in the northeast by the Sea of Azov, while in its territorial comparison with Texas it falls far short: the Ukrainian peninsula covers an area of 27,000 square kilometers, while Texas extends to approximately 700 thousand square kilometers.
