A video capturing the moment of arrest has been released showing the apprehension of 34-year-old homeless man Ross Judd, who is charged with the murder of 39-year-old pregnant Greek-Australian Athena Georgopoulou in Melbourne, Australia, and the beheading of her 50-year-old partner Andrew Gun on Monday night (11/8).
Victoria Police arrested the 34-year-old homeless man Ross Judd just hours later, six kilometers away from the house where the couple was murdered. According to authorities, the perpetrator—who had two large dogs with him—knew the victims.
Melbourne murder: Documentary footage from the moment of the 34-year-old’s arrest
Specifically, the footage shows police handcuffing the homeless man accused of murdering the couple in Melbourne, who is wearing a bloodstained shirt—an image consistent with descriptions from those who saw him going for a burger shortly after the double murder. The 34-year-old perpetrator, in a calm mental state, was taken to Melbourne court. Judd is charged with two murders: the 39-year-old who was five months pregnant expecting a girl, and her 50-year-old partner Andrew Gun, who was found by a neighbor in a horrific state. Gun’s body was discovered decapitated next to his dead partner, with his head impaled on a stake.

Dog trading dispute behind the heinous crime
While police have not officially announced the 34-year-old homeless man’s motive, Australian media reports suggest the argument that led to the double murder may have been caused by a disagreement between Georgopoulou’s partner and the homeless killer. According to the same sources, neighbors had observed tension between Judd, who was known to many locals, and Gun regarding his beloved German Shepherd, which rarely left his side.
Judd himself has two German Shepherds and was often seen in the area with his dogs, including on the night the 39-year-old Greek-Australian and her 50-year-old partner were murdered. According to the Herald Sun newspaper, Gun and Judd may have been involved in a dispute regarding the sale and ownership of other dogs.
Smiling and composed perpetrator
“It’s a complex crime scene with significant amounts of DNA,” the prosecutor said about the crime scene, adding that “one of the individuals was pregnant…” Police requested a ten-week extension of the suspect’s detention to prepare a file with evidence from the complex case, according to the Herald Sun.
The defendant’s lawyer, Annie Allen, noted that this was Judd’s first time in custody and requested that prison nursing staff examine him for “health issues.” According to Melbourne media, the accused looked straight ahead throughout the hearing procedure and answered “yes, yes” when Judge Joanna Metcalf described details of his next court appearance on January 13 and asked if he understood. Judd smiled when the judge approved media requests for access to his charges but denied other material.
As reported by Australian network 7News, Judd was seen shortly after 11 PM on Monday—about an hour after the double murder—arriving barefoot at a fast-food restaurant with his dogs—two German Shepherds—and ordering two cheeseburgers and a diet soft drink. After finishing his meal, he wiped himself with napkins that he threw on the floor.
