Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to arrive in Berlin today to participate alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a video conference with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a government source cited by Reuters.
German newspaper Bild was the first to report the information, citing anonymous sources, noting that the visit comes as Merz organizes a series of video conferences ahead of the scheduled summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is set for Friday in Alaska.
Today’s discussions with Merz will include, besides Zelensky, the leaders of Finland, France, Britain, Italy, Poland, as well as representatives from the European Union and NATO.
The Ukrainian side expects these video conferences to serve, at least partially, as a European counterweight to the Alaska summit, as Zelensky and his supporters seek to prevent Kiev’s interests from being sidelined in the effort to achieve a ceasefire.
