It should be noted that the funeral of the singer -who had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease since 2019- took place last week at his estate in Buckinghamshire. The private ceremony was attended by his family and some rock music “stars”. Specifically, for the final “goodbye”, the ceremony was attended -besides his 72-year-old wife Sharon and their children- by Marilyn Manson and Ozzy’s guitarist, Zakk Wylde.
Grief over Osbourne’s death
It should be noted that the news of his death “shocked” fans, as just three weeks earlier he had appeared on stage for Black Sabbath’s farewell concert at Villa Park stadium in his hometown of Birmingham. The undisputed king of hard rock, who died at age 76, plunged the music world and millions of fans who grew up with his screams and melodies into mourning. With his voice reaching the soul, with a stage presence that never lowered the intensity and with a life that constantly balanced on the edge, Ozzy Osbourne was something much more than a frontman: he was the epitome of the extreme freedom that only rock music can offer.
Ozzy Osbourne, as a founding member of Black Sabbath, redefined rock, creating a sound that was raw, dark, authentic. Songs like Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs became anthems for a youth seeking ways to express their anger and despair. His solo career was no less iconic: Crazy Train, No More Tears, Changes – all hard rock classics, all with that characteristic voice that seemed to carry chaos itself within it. Despite addictions, personal breakdowns and constant battles with his health – from injuries to Parkinson’s – Ozzy Osbourne never broke. On the contrary, he continued to take the stage, as in the finale of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, proving that a legend doesn’t need to be at his peak to be present.
