Russia and China are further strengthening their military cooperation in recent hours, as they began joint naval exercises in the Sea of Japan. The drills started on Sunday (3/8), two days after Donald Trump’s announcement that he ordered the deployment of two US nuclear submarines to “appropriate areas.”
The Russian Pacific Fleet announced that its warships along with Chinese Navy vessels are conducting anti-submarine exercises and live-fire drills in the Sea of Japan as part of scheduled joint maneuvers.
Russian and Chinese warships moved in a joint formation, which included a large Russian anti-submarine vessel and two Chinese destroyers, according to Interfax. The Russian news agency added that diesel-electric submarines from both countries are participating in the exercises, as well as a Chinese submarine rescue ship.
Live-fire exercises
It should be noted that the maneuvers are part of the “Maritime Interaction-2025” exercises, which are scheduled to conclude on Tuesday. Interfax reports that Russian and Chinese sailors will conduct artillery fire, practice anti-submarine and anti-aircraft missions, and improve joint search and rescue operations at sea.
It is recalled that Trump announced his order to move American submarines near Russia was given in response to what he characterized as “extremely provocative” comments by former Russian President Medvedev regarding the risk of war between the two nuclear superpowers.
