Crossing the iconic Harbour Bridge, participants in the “March for Humanity” demonstration called for peace and humanitarian aid distribution to the devastated Palestinian enclave – many carried pots and pans as symbols of malnutrition and hunger. Among the protesters was Julian Assange, founder of the Wikileaks platform, in one of his rare public appearances since being released from Britain and returning to Australia.
The 54-year-old Assange was at the front of the march, holding a massive banner alongside the organizers. In May, the Australian activist appeared at the Cannes Festival wearing a shirt with the phrase “Stop Israel,” making a statement appearance against the war in Gaza.
