The Krasheninnikov volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula erupted on August 3, 2025, marking its first eruption after approximately 600 years. According to Russian and scientific reports, the previous significant eruption of Krasheninnikov was recorded around the year 1463, with a margin of error of approximately ±40 years. The recent volcanic activity represents a significant geological event, as the Kamchatka region is known for intense volcanic activity and frequent seismicity, making this phenomenon particularly studied by scientists worldwide.

Specifically, the eruption of the Krasheninnikov volcano on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula is producing ash clouds 5-6 kilometers high, moving toward the Pacific Ocean without affecting any populated areas in their path. It has been categorized with an orange aviation hazard code, as the ash may affect flights in the region. The volcano reaches a height of approximately 1,856 meters.<

Tsunami warnings issued
Scientists believe the eruption resulted from the recent major 8.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on July 30, 2025, off Kamchatka, which caused tsunami waves up to 3-4 meters on Russian coasts and evacuations across Asia and the Pacific. Tsunami warnings were issued for the USA (Hawaii, Alaska), Japan, Chile, and other coastal states, and were subsequently downgraded to advisories.
Activity in another volcano
Meanwhile, the active Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano, also in Kamchatka, showed activity around July 30. Russian authorities issued evacuation guidelines for the area, while scientific monitoring of the phenomenon continues.
