Spanish rescue services today recovered the bodies of two passengers from the two-seater aircraft that crashed on Saturday evening into the sea, off the coast of Majorca, in the Balearic Islands archipelago. The victims are a father and son, who were transported to the port of Sóller.
The accident occurred around 8:00 PM local time (9:00 PM Greek time), near the lighthouse of Sóller port, in the northern part of the island, according to a Spanish police announcement. The aircraft had taken off from a Majorca airport two hours earlier and crashed just 100 meters from the coastline.
Majorca: What witness reports
A witness to the incident, a boat passenger, told authorities that the light aircraft was performing maneuvers before crashing. The local press reports it was an aerobatic aircraft participating in air shows.
