Following the widespread attention the incident received, the WNBA responded immediately, announcing that anyone throwing objects onto the court will be ejected on the spot and face criminal prosecution. As stated in an official announcement: “The safety and well-being of everyone at our venues is the league’s highest priority. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or seating areas can endanger the safety of players, referees, and spectators.” Videos of the object on the court quickly went viral, with numerous fans expressing disgust at these actions and demanding stricter security measures at WNBA venues.
